VSI DICOM

DICOM is the standard for archiving and distributing medical image data. The DICOM Option Pack provides a DICOM-compliant interface which can be used to link VSI systems (oneTouch, foreSight, managerServer) to PACS (image archive) and RIS (radiological information system), for example. VSI uses a flexible, open data model to deal with the various interpretations of the DICOM standard in different PACS/RIS systems, frequently a source of irritation in integration projects. Manufacturer-specific adaptations are simple to realize with minimum expense.

The technical specifications of the interface are recorded in a DICOM Conformance Statement which we would be pleased to supply on request.

In addition to the various formats for archiving image data, the DICOM standard also regulates the communication required between the systems involved. PACS and RIS systems function as so-called SCPs (service class providers) and a VSI system as an SCU (service class user) in this process.

The various medical image sources connected to a VSI system, e.g. MIC (minimally-invasive camera), video processor or ultrasound device, are incorporated in PACS/RIS systems as modalities.
