The standard-compliant HL7 and DICOM interface options are available for seamless integration of the VSI systems in a clinical IT infrastructure. This scenario is used to explain the example of a workflow in which a VSI system transmits images to a PACS system.
At the start of a DICOM workflow, the hospital information system, as the leading system in the hospital, generally makes an examination request with the associated patient data to a PACS management system (RIS - radiological information system). This data is exchanged by means of HL7 message. A so-called DICOM worklist is then compiled in the RIS. The necessary procedures (examinations, surgery, therapy etc.) for patients is planned in this step. RIS assigns these procedures to the associated modalities and provides the necessary data (patient, examination, etc.) in the form of a worklist entry. The VSI system fetches the orders relevant to its modalities and saves them. For the user of the VSI system, the new procedures appear under the relevant patient with the current date and can be clearly displayed with a simple click on the "Patients today" button. The images recorded during a procedure are either selected immediately they are produced or at a later point and then transferred to the PACS. They can then be called up from there by PACS viewer or PACS workstation, for example, in order to compile findings, among other things.
